Some lilies of the valley...and a sad story

My human friend and I want to thank all our new followers for becoming such, and also for all your always lovely comments. Sorry that we comment in stages, but you know how it is...time is running and rare!

Yesterday my human friend was visiting a man in hospital that she has never seen before. He is a family member of my human friends boyfriend. And this man is to be dying. Cancer in end stage. When she saw him lying in that bed, with his wife by his side, she became really sad! It was a touching picture which she will never forget in her life. The wife of this lovely man (who is only 63!!) told them that as soon as the docs diagnosed him with cancer, they prescribed her antidepressant drugs. But she was not willing to take it. And he caressed her hands and cheeks and he said: "Sweetheart, we can go through this without those drugs, can't we?".
My human friend has never seen someone dying in real life. She has never been to a hospital with the knowing that this person will not leave the building alive. And she certainly had never embraced someone who knows he is dying. How do you say goodbye? What words do you use? Would it be impious to wish him a good journey (she didn't say this, but it was what she wished him the most: a good journey to the unexpected). That was really touching and made her even more aware how precious life is. She is very satisfied with what she has, she says that she has a decent job, a roof above her head, warm and cold water from the tab and she can even drink it right from the tab (that's true wealth), she can afford animals and our beloved hobby. She has a man at her side who would do everything for her and she has lovely friends all around the world. Who cares that there are silly lassies at work, or that the neighbours are crazy! Life is too short and the unexpected can hit you at all times!!
Enjoy life, peeps!

But onto the card: it's a birthday card for a lovely friend my human friend made through blogging. She is a very nice person and creates lovely things, hop over to her blog and become a follower of her, if you aren't already. She really is a creative soul!

Was sagt man zum Abschied? Was für Worte benutzt man? Also geniesst euer Leben!

Hi Alessandra!
Oh that is a sad story. I have one too. I was in the same situation, but the person in the bed in hospital was my mother. One can never prepare for that! I too had so many thoughts and didn´t know what to say to comfort my beloved mother. It is hard to prepare for the end. The best thing we can do is to love the life we live and make the best out of it. Love the people around us when we are all still here. Value our livies as the most precious gift, as it is. Be happy for the little thing.
Be happy for all the friends we meet around the world. To be happy for this wonderful hobby, as you said. :)
Your card is gorgeous!! She will be very happy! Love your coloring, your color combo and pretty details! Have a great day my friend! hugs Sandra

Oh Alessandra that is so sad. I have been in this position with my Father and it is so very hard and nothing can prepare you for the end. All that we can hope is that they pass without pain. It is a shame that things like this make you put your life into perspective and you appreciate the little things. Unfortunately we drift back into our everyday busy lifes and forget until something like this happens again.
Your card is gorgeous. Have a good day my friend and live life to the full.

Oh Bailey,

Hi Alessandra my heart goes out to you it must be very upsetting if this is the first time you have seen someone close to the end. I dealt with it constantly in my job as a nurse and it never becomes easy as so many people seem to think. I always admired the quiet dignity that people displayed in this situation and all you can do is to be there for them. On a lighter note, your card is beautiful and I am sure your friend will be delighted with it xx

Hi Alessandra,
So sorry to hear about your sad story. My Dad died last year and suddenly. But I have a hope that I will see him again! Not when I die, but I believe that God will bring him back to life on this earth. Some beautiful scriptures in the Bible give me this hope. For example John 5:28 "All those in the memorial tombs will hear His voice and come out"... And Revelation 21:4 "And God will wipe the tears from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more"... I hope these give you some comfort too.
Your card is very lovely, I really like green and white!
Love Pearl x

Dominique

Hello Bailey. What a beautiful card your human friend has made - it is just beautiful. Your human friend though is very wise - she has enough food on the table, a nice home and lovely animals (and yes I include you!!) and another human who obviously loves her very much. So although sadness touches us all at some time in our lives our sadness is eased by the lovely memories of better and happier times. I have a link here which has a lovely poem and I read it often - it helped me through a terrible grief stricken time and maybe your human friend would like to share it.

Oh Alessandra - das ist echt berührend. Unheimlich traurig.

Life is full of times when words seem useless or hard to find. I think the show of caring is the thing most important to someone grieving or someone so very ill. Just to see the faces of the people they love and care about is enough to give them a warm smile deep within. Words sometimes are overated.
I have been there in a few different ways and sometimes I was stronger because someone loved me enough to just be there. I pray you all find inner strength at this sad time.
Your card is lovely and such a sweet image.

Oh sweetie, my heart goes out to you and to the couple, it is a very hard thing to say goodbye to anyone in that situation, but from what you say they both have accepted it and have chosen to deal with things head on. I have much admiration for them. I must admit the story did bring me to tears, many memories came flooding back. I lost my dad to cancer when I was 18, i never got the chance to say goodbye, I lost my mother-in-law to be a week before I got engaged, but we knew the time was close for her and we had a very tearful heart to heart the day before she passed. And as you know I lost my precious son just 2 yrs ago. What I am trying to say is it doesnt matter how many or how few times you will come across these situations in your life it never gets easier, but you learn to cope better. Life is just cruel and very unfair, but be thankful for what you have.
Fabulous card, you have a very lucky friend :-)
Take care

such a poignant story, at least they have the time to tell each other what they wanted to say but never got round to. I lost my Dad very suddenly and totally unexpected, we had gone on hoiday two weeks prior and had a lovely time and when we left him and my Mum at the airport he was very tearful when he said goodbye, little did I know that two weeks later he would be gone.....I'll always remeber him saying goodbye at the airport. We have to take each day and feel blessed, it certainly changed my outlook. Your card is stunning, loving the tranquilty of it

Hi sweetie, so sorry to hear about you feeling sad, I understand how difficult it is to see situations like this, I lost both my dad and my uncle to cancer (both at only age 55) and it's a particularly nasty illness, to watch the people left behind is also one of the hardest things, I think though in these situation you just have to be glad that they will no longer be in pain and wish that they go on to something better. As you say it really does make you realise how precious life is. Thinking of you and your boyfriends family in this difficult time
